1. Qd4+ Ke6 2. Qxg7
By moving 1. Qd4+, the White queen delivers check and, at the same time, attacks the Black rook. This chess tactic is called the fork. There are the queen fork, knight fork, bishop fork, rook fork, pawn fork, and king fork.
Solution to Puzzle 6
1. Kb6+ Kb3 2. Kxa7
By moving 1. Kb6+, White delivers the discovered check. The discovered check being delivered, the White king is near the Black rook. The Black king has to move away and the Black rook has to be taken.
