Effective from 1 July 2014, FIDE made some changes in the rules of calculating Elo results, including the FIDE chess ratings. The following list will give you a general idea of the Updated 1 July 2014 FIDE Rating System: 1. The K-factor values Effective from 1 July 2014: • The K-factor 10. Before 1 July 2014, now cancelled: • The K-factor 10. 2. The K-factor assignments Effective from 1 July 2014: • The K-factor is 40 for a player new to the rating list until he has completed events with at least 30 games; Before 1 July 2014, now cancelled: • The K-factor is 30 for players new to the rating list, until they have completed events with a total of at least 30 games; 3. The Table of Winning Probability No change, the Table is the same. 4. The FIDE Rule of 400 Points No change, the Rule of 400 Points is still in force. • The Rule of 400 Points works from 1 July 2009. 5. Table of Performance Change No change, the Table is the same. 6. The Minimum Performance Rating Needed for the Norm Effective Now (and was effective from 1 July 2009): Before 1 July 2009, now cancelled: 7. The FIDE Norm Requirements Few Changes, for getting norms in some top-tournament events. 8.
