Checkmate Puzzle 45 Solution  1. Qxe5+ Kxe5 2. Bb2# This is a unique Mate in 2 and unique middlegame position from real chess game to implement such mate. To mate in 2, White takes the Black pawn on e5 sacrificing his queen first. After this, the Black king has no legal moves and has to take the sacrificed queen on e5, see next… The White dark bishop mates from b2 — the Black king is mated, has no friendly pieces to interpose, and has nowhere to move. Pay attention that the Black d-6 pawn was pinned by the White rook in the initial position. Back to top
Checkmate Puzzle 46 Solution  1. Ne7+ Qxe7 2. Qg7# This puzzle on Mate in 2 from real chess game is not difficult, but it is a good example on sacrifice and deflection before delivering checkmate. In the initial position, the White queen may not checkmate from g7 because the Black queen is defending the above square. How to deflect the Black queen from g7? It is easy… First the left White knight moves on e7 with check — the Black king has nowhere to move and its queen has to take the left knight… The Black queen being deflected, The White queen moves on g7 with mate.
