The famous Champion Mate 2016. This checkmate helped Grandmaster Magnus Carlsen to keep his title of World Chess Champion for another 2 years: Queen sacrifice with check to open line f7-h7 or deflect the king from h8 for a mating rook.

A typical checkmate combination… The White knight attacks g7; g6, g8 are blocked; the queen is ready for sacrifice; a White rook is around to attack along the h-file… Queen sacrifice to remove king defense and open the h-file for mating rook.
