Solution to Puzzle 9
1. Rc4+ Qxc4 Draw by stalemate
By moving 1. Rc4+, White delivers check, attacks the Black queen and sacrifices his own rook in a smart way. Black has to take the rook otherwise he will lose the game. After taking, there are no legal moves for White – stalemate and draw.
Solution to Puzzle 10
1. Rf6+ Kxf6 Draw by stalemate
By moving 1. Rf6+, White sacrifices the rook in a smart way. If the Black king takes the rook as shown in the solution, it is a draw by stalemate. If the Black king don’t take the rook, it is again a draw but in another way – by taking the queen.
