Checkmate Puzzle 9 Solution  1. Ne2+ Bxe2 2. g3# [1. N~ ~ 2. g3#] The Black king is locked, cannot move and is already inside the mating net – Black needs, at least, 2 moves to release the king. What is White to do? Just to make any move by the knight to clear g3 for the g2-pawn to checkmate in two. Back to top
Checkmate Puzzle 10 Solution  1. Ne5+ Ke8 (Kf8, Kg8) 2. Rc8# How to mate in two? By having moved 1. Ne5+, White uses the knight and bishop to create the firewall for the Black king (see) on d7, e7, f7, g7, f6. The Black king has to step back to be checkmated on the second move Rc8# from the back rank.
