 Checkmate Puzzle 75 Solution

1. Qxg4+ Kf6 2. Qh4+ Kf5 3. Qf4#
This puzzle on mate in 3 is not so easy as it looks. For sure, you will quickly find the first correct move. But will you be fast enough to find the second and the third correct moves for White?.. First, the White queen takes the pawn on g4 to check – the Black king has to move on f6. Second, the White queen returns back on h4 to check by diagonal – the Black king has to return back on f5 (f7, g6 are attacked by the knight; g7 by a pawn). Third, the White queen mates from f4… To remember: returning back, queen check by diagonal. Please analyze.

 Checkmate Puzzle 76 Solution

1. Rf8+ Kg7 2. Rf7+ Kh6(Kh8) 3. Qxh7#
This puzzle on mate in 3 is also not so easy as it looks. First, the White rook moves on f8 to check – the Black king has the only square to move to on g7. Second, the White rook returns back on f7 to check again – the Black king has 2 options: to move on h6 or on h8… On the third move, the White queen mates by taking the pawn on h7 (pay attention that g5 is attacked by the White knight). To remember: the rook returning back. Please analyze.
