Solution to Puzzle 21  1. b7# This is a typical checkmate position in which the pawn can mate. Learn it: The Black king is at the corner blocked by his friendly pieces. In addition, the Black king cannot move because the White king is attacking “the window” on b7… The left White pawn just moves on b7 with mate – the White king supports the pawn. Back to top
Solution to Puzzle 22  1. h6# This is the second typical checkmate position in which the pawn can mate. Like in the previous puzzle, the Black king is surrounded by his friendly pieces and cannot move. The White bishop attacks f7 and g8. The White king attacks f6, g6, h6. The square h6 is supported by the king – the White pawn moves on h6 to mate.
