Rg7+ Kf8 3. h8=Q# This puzzle is taken from a game of top-rated chess players: Grandmaster Levon Aronian rated 2750 plays as White against Grandmaster Alexander Grischuk rated 2726. This beautiful checkmate in 3 will help you learn 2 winning ideas in chess… To begin, White delivers check with sacrifice by moving his knight on f6 – and the Black bishop has to take the knight. By having checked and sacrificed, White unblocks his h7-pawn to promote it later on… On his second move, White moves the rook on g7 to deliver the discovered check and to “shadow” the promotion square on h8 – the Black king has to step on f8.
